DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056

DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056 has been designed to work with Brüel & Kjær Modal Exciters Types 4824, 4825, 4826, 4827 and 4828 and matching power amplifiers.

Depending which of the Brüel & Kjær modal exciters is connected, DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056 serves one of two different purposes:

1) In connection with the electromagnet based Modal Exciters Types 4827 and 4828, DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056 is an essential component that provides armature “suspension” with variable stiffness and correct centering of the armature relative to the exciter’s housing and the structure under test. DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056 ensures “zero” positioning of the armature, ensuring a full 2-inch peak-to-peak displacement capability.
2) In connection with the permanent magnet based Modal Exciters Types 4824, 4825 and 4826, DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056 is used as an optional unit to apply a pre-tensioning force to the tension wire (if such a type of stinger is used - traditional push/pull stingers do not require any pre-tensioning) between the modal exciter and the input transducer attached to the structure under test.

Applications

  • Required electrical pre-tensioning component for Modal Exciter Types 4827 and 4828: provides armature suspension with variable stiffness and correct centering of the armature relative to the exciter’s housing and the test structure, thus ensuring ‘zero’ positioning of the armature 
  • Optional unit when used with Modal Exciter Types 4824, 4825, 4826: applies an electrical pre-tensioning force to the tension wire between the modal exciter and the input transducer attached to the test structure

Fonctionnalités

  • Potentiometer for continuous adjustment of armature position relative to maximum peak displacement
  • Potentiometer for electrical pre-setting of suspension stiffness
  • LED indicators signal when the exciter armature is at ‘zero’ position (± 3mm), and when there is armature overtravel (above or below the ‘zero’ position)
  • Tension wire pre-tensioning force at 20% (fixed) of force rating of attached modal exciter

    DC Static Centering Unit Type 1056 is based on two components, both essential for proper functioning - an optical sensor and a control unit. The optical sensor is pre-installed into all Modal Exciters Types 4824, 4825, 4826, 4827 and 4828. Its task is to monitor the exact instantaneous position of the armature, condition the signal and output this to the control unit.

    The optical sensor scans two specially prepared reflecting surfaces on a designated “arm” that extends from the armature by means of two infrared reflex-type optocouplers. Owing to the symmetrical construction of the optical system, the effect of ambient light is suppressed to a large degree. The signals supplied by the optical sensor are processed and evaluated by the control unit. The optical sensor does not require any power supply of its own as the necessary power is supplied from Type 1056.
