Ensuring Acoustic Stealth

Acoustic detection and identification techniques continuously become more advanced and sophisticated. As they evolve, so must acoustic stealth strategies. To maintain acoustic discretion, all of an aquatic vessel’s noise sources must be considered, including personnel, on-board equipment and cavitation, as well as the radiated noise signature of the vessel as a whole. Similarly, the acoustic signature of an unmanned air vehicle must be minimised (for example, during low altitude surveillance.)

Brüel & Kjær has extensive experience with underwater and aircraft acoustics and shock response properties. This experience combined with underwater testing solutions and air vehicle flyover noise measurements can be used in application-specific tasks, from investigating, analysing and identifying noise sources to validating advanced designs. Solutions include:

  • Noise level assessment of vessels at different velocities for benchmarking, new material testing or post-maintenance testing
  • Hydrophone calibration
  • Interior and exterior noise identification
  • Self noise monitoring
  • Air vehicle flyover noise measurements
